An Indian woman is facing the death penalty for allegedly poisoning and killing five guests at a party.
Police told repoters that Pradnya Survase’s intention was to eliminate her husband, his mother, his aunt and two of his sisters because unreservedly and constantly ridiculed cooking as well as her dark complexion: “Pradnya claims that since her marriage two years ago, she has been insulted regularly for her dark complexion and accused of not being able to cook well.”
Survase allegedly mixed snake poison with food she served to the 120 invited guests. “We learnt that those who had eaten between 4:30pm and 6pm were suffering from nausea and other issues. We then found out who had served the food then” said police.
88 people were hospitalized and treated for poisoning while 5 died including 4 children and one adult.
Survase confessed to administering poison after an interrogation and sites the cruel treatment she received from her husband and his family as the motive behind the vengeful act.
She now awaits trial for her murder and attempted murder charges. She faces the death penalty.
